Knitting boobs…really?
Next Saturday, June 15, Madolaine is organizing a new Tricothon.
Last May, more than a hundred volunteer knitters registered to participate in the first Madolaine Tricothon to knit toques and slippers. Nearly 250 projects were handed over to the St-Vincent de Paul Society for people in need. This first edition was a huge success!
For our second edition, we decided to join forces with a very different but equally noble cause : knitting breasts for women who have undergone a mastectomy.
What are knitted boobs?
Knitted Knockers are lovingly knitted breast implants for women who have undergone breast surgery for breast cancer. These prostheses are light, comfortable and very soft. Knitted breasts have the advantage of being lighter and breathing better than traditional silicone prostheses.
Available in all colors and sizes, these artificial breasts are knitted with hypoallergenic cotton yarn and can pair with regular or specialty bras . Some models even allow swimming.
The aim of this project is to help and support women suffering from breast cancer by offering them free knitted breasts.
A recent project for Quebec
Originally from the United States, it was in 2016 that Knitted Knockers began to be made in Quebec and it is an organization for women in Brossard, Com'Femmes, which ensures the production and distribution of these artificial breasts. Over the past 2 years, more than 1,200 pairs of breasts have been knitted, which represents the equivalent of 10,000 hours of work!
Official drop-off point
In April 2019, Madolaine proudly became one of the official drop-off points for Knitted Nichons. During your visit to the store, all you have to do is mention your interest in knitting for the cause and, when purchasing ULTRA PIMA cotton, you will obtain a 20% discount.
All you have to do is return your knitted Boobs to the bin provided for this purpose.
