Jawoll Silk superwash is a beautiful yarn, just like classic Jawoll. Jawoll Silk is made from Tussah silk and wool from the Corriedale sheep. This type of silk is wild silk, obtained from the caterpillars or cocoons of free-living Japanese oak silk moths. The thread is also a little stronger than mulberry silk - one unrolled cocoon typically yields a silk thread 1200 to 1400 meters long. For JAWOLL SILK, only the finest part of the wool fleece is sorted during shearing. The average thickness, the diameter of the fiber, is only 25 microns (1 micron = 1/1000 mm) so the wool is very soft and very pleasant to wear. Corriedale sheep live year-round in the wilds of Patagonia. Perfect for socks, baby projects and lightweight sweaters.
